RESEARCH TEAM

The METELS project combines a multidisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) , User Experience and User Engagement (UE), Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), Quantitative and Qualitative research methods and assessing educational and training contexts.

Mónica Aresta, METELS PI, is an auxiliary researcher at DigiMedia – Digital Media and Interaction Research Centre (University of Aveiro, Department of Communication and Arts), where she coordinates “Technology-enhanced Learning and Communities” research group. With a research path focused on HCI, Computer-Mediated Communication, UE and User eXperience, TEL and Digital Games for Environmental Sustainability, she has published 14 book chapters, 13 journal articles and 16 conference papers in high-impact journals in the fields of HCI and TEL. Mónica has supervised 7 doctoral theses (1 completed) and 8 master theses (5 completed). With research rooted in the field of CMC and Human-Computer Interaction, Monica will bring to METELS her experience with theories and conceptual frameworks in HCI in different learning contexts, working with the team in discussing and defining the theoretical framework of the project and in building and specifying the METELS scale.

Luis Pedro is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication and Arts, University of Aveiro, Portugal. He is an integrated member of the DigiMedia research centre and his research interests are related to participatory and social media development, integration and assessment in educational and training contexts. Luis’ extensive experience in technology-enhanced learning scenarios, particularly in relation to student engagement, is highly relevant to the METELS project. He has supervised more than 65 post-graduation research projects and coordinated and participated in externally funded research projects. He is (co-) author of 6 books on the topic of Multimedia Technologies for secondary-level teaching and learning and has also (co-) authored over 125 scientific publications on subjects related to ICT, EdTech, social media, TEL and PLEs. He is a reviewer in national and international journals and he also serves as a Program Committee member for various national and international conferences in the referred scientific fields.
